About THE REFUGE

The Refuge in our opinion is a slight detour from your general diner you've become accustomed to and we're sure you'll love it regardless. Leaning towards an upper scale atmosphere, The Refuge is a Belgian-based DDD joint that is a hidden gem in the city of San Carlos. We must add however that there is actually a second location of The Refuge now in California located in Hillsdale. The Refuge is famed for specializing with all types of Beers. These guys carry an astounding 18 Belgian varieties on tap which really translated to the simple fact that you can't miss out on a good drink here. As they state from their mission, it's all about Pastrami, Belgian Beer and Burgers when you dine at The Refuge. The entire menu is genuine. While visiting The Refuge as seen on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, be sure to try their famed Pastrami Burger, Cheesesteak or their classic and crowd favorite Pastrami Sandwich. In our opinion, this is the place for genuine East Coast street food classics since 2008 in California. Another fun fact is that they grind their own secret blend of hamburger each morning which is simply one of many fine details that makes The Refuge in a league of their own. Few other items which come to mind from our previous visits here include the crispy Garlic Fries, Barbacoa Nachos, Tilapia Sandwich, Chopped Liver, Chopped Salad and again the enormous list of complimentary beers is truly magnificent and worth the visit alone.
